TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The many happy returns continue to stream into Florida A&M in the wake of its Black College Football National Championship season in 2019, as head coach
Willie Simmons has become the fastest Rattler coach to lead his team to a title.
The Quincy, Fla. native took just two seasons (2018, 2019) to elevate FAMU football to a national championship level, surpassing the revival efforts of the school's other four championship coaches.
William "Big Bill" Bell (1938 – 8-0-0), and A.S. "Jake" Gaither (1947 – 9-1-0), each won their first national titles in their third seasons.
Rudy Hubbard (1977 – 11-0-0) won in his fourth season, while William "Billy" Joe (1998 – 11-2-0), reached the pinnacle in his fifth year at FAMU.
Simmons also became just the third FAMU coach to win nine (9) games in his second season in 2019, joining Billy Joe (1995) and Rudy Hubbard (1975).
