Rattler Women Throw Shade On Suns, 102-40

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Nov. 22) – The FAMU Women's Basketball team cruised past the Johnson (Fla.) University Suns, 102-40 in a non-conference bout Friday evening.

 

Graduate center Shalunda Burney-Robinson led FAMU with a 19-point, 13-rebound double double, her third of the season. Regan Anderson also scored 19 points, splashing four of eight three-pointers.

 

Alaina Rice added 14 points, five steals and four rebounds; Kayla Massop had 13 points to go with nine rebounds, and Corey Staples finished with 10 points, splashing a pair of three-pointers.

 

FAMU (2-3) won for the second time in three games, and both victories saw the Rattlers surpass the century mark.

 

The Rattlers came out of the gates hot, outpacing the Suns, 30-8 in the first period, then continued the trend with a 33-7 surge in the second period for a 63-15 lead at the half.

 

FAMU's torrid pace slowed in the second half, as they outscored the Suns, 39-25 over the final two periods.

 

The Rattlers shot 43.8 percent (36 of 82) from the floor and 11 of 32 from three-point range

(34.4 percent), while holding the Suns to 28 percent shooting (11 of 38) from the field. FAMU also dominated the boards, pulling down 48 rebounds to just 19 for Johnson.

 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Rattlers will travel to Gainesville next Sunday, for a 2:00 p.m. matinee against the Florida Gators in the Stephen O'Connell Center.
