Jacksonville, Fl. (March 24th, 2018) – After a tough loss on Friday night, Florida A&M looked to bounce back in game two of their series with the Ospreys of North Florida.
The Rattlers struck early in this one, scoring one run in the top of the first. Jordan Curtis led off the game with a bunt single on the first pitch he saw. Curtis then stole second and scored on a base hit to left by Jacky Miles, giving Miles three RBIs on the weekend, and the Rattlers a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first.
UNF answered with a run of their own in the bottom half. Dalton Board led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base. Mac Wilson then singled to center field to drive in Board, tying the game up at one after one inning of play.
The game didn't remain tied for too long, as the Rattlers regained the lead in the top of the third. Jordan Curtis led off the inning with his second hit of the game, this one a single to right field. He then stole his second base of the game before scoring on a Dallas Oliver single to center, making it a 2-1 game going into the bottom of the third.
North Florida quickly answered in the bottom of the third, gaining a 3-2 lead thanks to a two-run homerun to left by Tanner Murphy.
FAMU regained the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth. Jordan Curtis continued to be productive, driving in Willis McDaniel on a ground ball to short. Kaycee Reese then scored Octavien Moyer with a base hit. Dallas Oliver made it a 6-3 game with a two-run homer to left, giving him three RBIs on the day.
UNF cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on first and second, Dalton Board attempted a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, scoring both runners to make it a 6-5 game in favor of FAMU.
Tanner Murphy gave UNF the lead again with his second two-run homerun of the day. Blake Voyles added another run, driving in Abraham Sequera with a double to right center, extending the Ospreys' lead to 8-6 after seven innings.
UNF held onto their two run lead, as Nick Marchese earned the win, throwing the final 5 innings of the game, allowing no runs on one hit. Starting pitcher Austin Drury gave up six earned runs through 4 innings in a no-decision.
Chandellor Benton was handed his first loss of the season for the Rattlers, giving up three earned runs through 2.1 innings of relief. Starting pitcher Ryan Anderson allowed 3 earned runs through 4 innings of work. Deven Shulstad threw 0.2 innings, giving up no runs, and Pedro de los Rios threw a scoreless eighth inning.
The loss drops Florida A&M's record to 11-15. The Rattlers will look to take the third game of the series on Sunday, March 25th, at Harmon Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 PM.
