LAS VEGAS (Dec. 23) - The Florida A&M Men's Basketball team snapped their five-game losing streak as the Rattlers defeated Sacred Heart, 75-70, here Monday afternoon at the Orleans Arena in their final game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic.
FAMU (3-13) was led by
Jamie Adams as he scored a game high 23 points to lead all scorers and dished out six assists.
Trey Kellum also finished the contest in double-digit scoring as he recorded his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
SHU (2-12) had three players to score in double figures with Steve Glowiak scoring a team high 19 points, followed by Chris Evans with18, while De'von Barnett chipped in 14. Mostafa Abdel Latif led the Pioneers on the boards with nine, while Phile Gaetano dished out 10 assists.
Christopher Rozier tied the game at 12-12 for the Rattlers with a made layup at the 10:43 mark.
These two teams would tie each other two more time in the half as FAMU would go into the break with a 25-23 lead, on a Kellum field goal at the eight second mark.
The Rattlers finished the first half shooting 27.5 percent (11-of-40), while the Pioneers shot 23.3 percent (7-of-30).
FAMU opened the second half with a 9-4 run to take a 34-27 lead on a
Richie Spiller layup with 18:11 to go in the game.
A Barnett layup would give the Pioneers a 45-43 lead with 11:22 to go in the game, capping a 9-0 run by SHU.
Adams would convert on three made free throws with 7:03 to go in the game, capping a 13-4 run by FAMU. In addition, Adams would score seven of the 13 points during the run.
The Rattlers would extend their lead to 68-59 on a pair of Adams made free throws with 1:27 to go in the game as FAMU would go on to win the contest 75-70.
FAMU finished the contest shooting 36.6 percent (26-of-71), whereas SHU shot 36.5 percent (23-of-63). In addition, the Rattlers controlled the boards as they out rebounded the Pioneers, 49-39.
The Rattlers will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 2 as they will host FIU in a 7 p.m. start at the Al Lawson Center.
