TALLAHASSEE, Fla
. – The FAMU Rattlers football team went through the second day of spring drills today at the practice field, nicknamed "The Pit" during the Jake Gaither era.
The day started with the standard exercises and stretches.
After pre-drills, the team conducted special teams drills under the direction of kicking/special team coach Juan Vasquez. Kicker Trevor Scott was highlighted as coverage drills were undertaken.
Offensive coordinator Lawrence Kershaw continued to install his new offensive package. Coach Aaron Taylor worked the running back squads through several drills.
Defensively, the Rattlers went through an intense practice. Coach George Small took the defensive linemen through technique exercises on the seven-man sled. They also did speed and swim technique drills.
Coach Jimmie Tyson's defensive backs went through interception and coverage drills. They also spent considerable time on dropback technique.
Defensive coordinator Earl Homes took the linebackers through several tackling, elusion and pursuit drills. The linebackers then joined the rest of the defensive squad for team defensive drills. The team went through several recognition drills.
Practice ended for the last time this week in shorts and shoulder pads. Wednesday day is an off day for the Rattlers, but they return to action on Thursday in full pads.
The 2011 FAMU Orange & Green Game is set for April 2 @ 5 p.m. in Bragg Memorial Stadium
