Russ Jackson

Jackson arrived at FAMU in October 2020 after serving at Daytona State College as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator from 2016-2020. While at Daytona, Jackson was responsible for recruiting, defense, scouting, game preparation, the development of perimeter players, and academic support. The Falcons won one Mid-Florida Conference Championship and had three runner-up finishes during Coach Jackson’s time on staff. They also made three Region VIII NJCAA tournament appearances. During his time at Daytona, Coach Jackson recruited and developed 20 All-Conference players, four All-State players, one Conference Player of the Year, and one NJCAA All-American. Additionally, Coach Jackson mentored three players that received NJCAA Academic All-American Honors and assisted in graduating 19 of 20 players during his time. 
 
Before Daytona, Jackson served the 2015-16 season as the Assistant Director of Compliance at Wingate University (NC). While at Wingate, Jackson was responsible for the National Letter of Intent and Grant-in-Aid program, monitored official and unofficial visits, and created waiver requests for 22 sports programs.
 
From 2012-2015, Coach Jackson served as a volunteer assistant coach at Hampton University, where he assisted with individual workouts and helped coordinate scouting. Jackson helped with pre-game planning and in-game coaching. While serving as the Senior Recreation Professional for the City of Hampton’s athletic department, Coach Jackson was in charge of implementing, create schedules, compliance oversight for youth from elementary school to junior high school. 
 
From 2008 to 2012, Jackson served as the NCAA Compliance Program Manager for The School District of Philadelphia. While there, Jackson oversaw that NCAA academic standards were in place for over 7,000 student-athletes within the school district. Jackson also fostered relationships with college coaches to generate additional scholarship opportunities for the student-athletes in Philadelphia. During this time, Coach Jackson also served as the Head Basketball Coach for Mont Clare Academy (PA). Jackson led the team to a 16-8 record and placed five players on Division 1 rosters during his first season. 
 
From 2002 to 2007, Jackson served as the lead assistant at Livingstone College (NC) for five seasons. During his time at Livingstone, his responsibilities included the recruiting coordinator, academic advisor, and implementing the strength and conditioning programs for the team. During the 2005 season, the team won 18 games, which was a school record. The program also won the CIAA team academic award on two separate occasions.  
 
Before Livingstone, Jackson served as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Admissions Recruiter at Reading Area Community College (PA). While there, he mentored five All-Conference players and increased the team’s win total in each of the five seasons he coached. 
 
Before his stint at Reading Area Community College, Jackson served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Coatesville Senior High School, for four seasons. 
 
Jackson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Psychology from Savannah State University and a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from the California University of Pennsylvania.
 
A native of Coatesville, PA, Jackson and his wife, Naomi (FAMU ’02), are the proud parents of three children (Jordan, Isaiah, and Russ Jr.).
