Lamont Franklin joins the men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach, marking a return to the sidelines after a stint under former coach Mike Gillespie. A 17-year veteran, Franklin spent time on the Rattler bench as an assistant coach from 2001-2003. During his experienced career, he has coached on both the collegiate and high school levels. Immediately, he was a solutions specialist at the Microsoft Corporation before deciding to get back into coaching.
His career has taken him to UNC-Wilmington (1997-1998), Howard University (1998-2000) and Towson State (2003-2004) among his stints as assistant coach. He served as head coach at Cedar Park high School from 2005-2008 and Johnson & Wales University from 2009-2011.
FAMU head coach Byron Samuels welcomes Franklin back into the fold at Florida A&M. " It is with great joy that we can announce that Lamont Franklin has joined our basketball staff. I have known Lamont since I recruited him to UNC-Wilmington when I was an assistant there in 1993. He is a leader in every sense of the word and a tireless worker, self starter and true student of the game. His intelligence, personality and toughness are qualities that attracted us to recruit him to UNCW, and they are qualities that also make him an excellent assistant coach. He knows what it takes to be successful, and he possesses many of the skills necessary to help move the FAMU Basketball program forward,” Samuels said.
Franklin is married to Lisa Franklin and they have three children.
