Christopher Cash

Chris Cash comes to the Rattler coaching staff with a wealth of experience.  He will be coaching the Rattler safeties.  He is a native of Stockton, Calif., where he played football at Franklin High School before being recruited to play for the USC Trojans.  He went on to earn second team All-Pac 10, and was drafted in the sixth round to the Detroit Lions.

Cash had accepted a scholarship from the University of Colorado, but misfortunate technical error landed him at Palomar College in San Marcos, Ca.  He would have an outstanding career at PC, where he had three interceptions as a freshman and was offered a scholarship to USC, which he accepted.  He also made junior college All-American while at Palomar College.

At USC, he earned the reputation of being a solid safety.  He grabbed four interceptions over the two years at USC, starting 17 games.  He earned All-Pac-10 second team honors in 2001, even with missing the final three games of his collegiate career with an injury.

He had a stellar rookie season in the NFL, where he collected 100 tackles in just 12 games in 2002 for the Detroit Lions.  It would be his greatest output in the NFL as unfortunate injuries hampered his career.  He was selected in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL draft.  He later played for the Atlanta Falcons, before retiring in 2006.

He went back to his high school alma mater, where he was the defensive coordinator for five years before getting the call from Holmes.  He previously served as secondary coach at Riverside Community College, where he coached four all-conference players.

The Rattler defense is well stocked with talented safeties in John Ojo, Devan Roberts and Jonathan Pillow.  Cash is charged with solidifying the play of the last line of defense.  He and cornerbacks coach Corey Fuller work in similar philosophies that paid dividends in just a short time this spring.

This will be the first time in recent history that the defensive backfield will have both a cornerback and a safeties coach.  Cash is also astute at breaking down scouting for both opponents and recruits. His expertise in breaking down the personnel of opponents will serve defensive strategies for the Rattlers.
