Jamey Shouppe

Jamey Shouppe was named the first full-time head coach of the baseball program at Florida A&M University in July 2013.

Shouppe, a native of Chattahoochee, has led FAMU to two MEAC Conference championships (2015 & 2019) and a SWAC Championship (2023) during his tenure. The 2015 championship led to the program's first ever NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.  FAMU has also won three MEAC regular season southern division titles and a SWAC East Regular Season Championship in Shouppe’s tenure and Shouppe has twice been voted MEAC Coach of the Year and once SWAC Coach of the Year.

In 2024, Shouppe led the Rattlers to a 29-27, 22-8 record as the Rattlers won the SWAC East Championship for the first time in program history. Shouppe was named the SWAC Co-Coach of the Year. Shouppe also coached the SWAC Pitcher of the Year in Caleb Granger, and the Rattlers led with six players on the All-SWAC First and Second Teams. Granger moved into third place for single-season wins with nine, and true freshman Carson Kelly is in fourth place with eight wins.

In 2023, Shouppe led the Rattlers to the program’s first SWAC Championship after defeating Bethune-Cookman 9-6 in the SWAC Championship Game. The Rattlers went to their third NCAA Regionals in program history (all under Shouppe), losing to #3 Florida (3-0) and #10 UCONN (9-6). The Rattlers set new program records in hits (610), runs (453), home runs (73), doubles (114), and RBIs (414). The Rattlers also saw four players record 70+ hits (Ty Hanchey, Ty Jackson, Jared Weber, Janmikell Bastardo), 50+ RBIs (Sebastian Greico, Janmikell Bastardo, Joseph Pierini, Jared Weber), and 10+ home runs (Sebastian Greico, Janmikell Bastardo, Jared Weber, Ty Hanchey) for the first time in program history. The Rattlers also saw two individual records broken: Joseph Pierini set the single-season doubles record with 21, and Sebastian Greico set the single-season home runs record with 17.

Prior to FAMU, Shouppe spent 21 years as an assistant coach at Florida State University (FSU). At FSU, he spent 21 seasons as recruiting coordinator, 19 as pitching coach and also served as the programs associated head coach for nine seasons.  Shouppe assembled a top 25 nationally ranked recruiting class in all 21 years at FSU, with 13 of those classes ranked in the top 10 nationally.  His pitching staffs were consistently ranked nationally, and FSU led the Atlantic Coast Conference in pitching ERA 10 of his 19 seasons as pitching coach.

Shouppe was an All-Conference, All-State and All-Region pitcher and outfielder in 1979 and 1980 at Wallace State College in Alabama, before transferring to Florida State University to play in the 1981 and 1982 seasons. At FSU, Shouppe set single season and career appearance records as a pitcher.  He was selected in the 8th round of the 1982 Major League Baseball draft, and played 4 seasons in the Houston Astros organization.

Shouppe has also been involved with USA Baseball during the summers from 2012-2015, coaching and assisting in the selection of the 18U National Team.  Each of those four teams represented USA in the World Cup Games and won Gold Medals.

Shouppe earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from FSU in 1985 and a master's degree in education from Nova University in 1990. Shouppe has a wife, Karen, and three children (Jake, Kasey and Jared). His son, Jake, graduated from FAMU in 2014 with his doctorate from the School of Pharmacy.
