2014: Helms saw significant playing time, playing all 12 games, recording 56 total tackles (33 solos), with one (1) tackle for loss and a pass breakup. He had season-highs in tackles against Bethune-Cookman (11-22-14) and Norfolk State (11-1-14) with eight (8) total tackles in each game, and he opened the season against Jackson State (8-31-14) with seven (7) tackles.
2013: Helms played in five games, with five (5) tackles, four (4) solos to his credit,.….
2012: Helms was used sparingly as a reserve.
High School: Helms is a Top Ten 2013 graduate of Godby High School in Tallahassee, Fla. Luke earned varsity letters for four years in football and three years in baseball. He is a 3-Time Florida State Champion (2012 Godby Football, 2011 NFC Football & 2011 NFC Baseball). In addition, Helms is honored as Two-Time Fla All-State Defense (2011& 2012) and Two-Time All Big Bend Defense (2011 & 2012). He is a 2-Time Tallahassee QB Club Defensive Player of the Week and 2012 Wendy’s Heisman Football Award Winner Fla Big Bend. Also, Luke was awarded the 2012 Florida 5A State Championship Scholar Athlete Award at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Four year Honor Roll & Football Academic Team (2009 –Leon, 2010 & 2011 NFC, 2012 Godby)
Personal: William Luke Helms is the son of June and Mack Helms and the grandson of Bawsey and Myra Helms in Tallahassee, Fla. He has four siblings: brothers Caleb and Mack Helms, and sisters Mickela and Jacqueline Helms. He is currently majoring in Physics and is planning on finishing FAMU with his Masters.
