TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M volleyball claimed two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's weekly awards on Tuesday, September 22, as senior outside hitter Sydney Whitfield was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week and junior right-side Tamia Coleman was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Whitfield, a senior from Magnolia, Texas, earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Pelican Invitational in New Orleans after leading FAMU with 52 kills and averaging 3.25 kills per set.

She set a new career high with 24 kills in the Rattlers' four-set win over LSU-New Orleans, hitting .354 in the match and adding 13 digs for a double-double. Across four matches, Whitfield totaled 55.5 points and two service aces.

Heading into conference play, Whitfield ranks second on the team with 144 kills and sits among the SWAC's top 10 with 159.5 points.

Tamia Coleman, SWAC Defensive Player of the Week
Coleman, a junior from West Palm Beach, Florida, led FAMU at the net, posting five or more blocks in consecutive matches.

She recorded a season-high eight blocks (one solo, seven assisted) against Idaho, then followed with six blocks in the win over LSU-New Orleans. Coleman finished the weekend with 16 total blocks, averaging 1.00 blocks per set, and contributed 18.5 points.

Coleman leads FAMU with 41 blocks on the season. This marks her first weekly award of the year.
