Rattlers Open Camp on Friday Under Quinn Fordham Gray Sr.

7/30/2026 11:20:00 AM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M opens fall camp Friday, the first full training camp under head coach Quinn Fordham Gray Sr., who is tasked with restoring a program he once helped define as a player.

The Rattlers report for Practice No. 1 on July 31, running from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in helmets, the start of a 14-practice camp that stretches through Aug. 16 and includes two full-pads scrimmages on the game field before the regular-season schedule begins Aug. 17.

For Gray, camp doubles as both a professional test and a personal homecoming. A record-setting quarterback at FAMU from 1997 to 2001, Gray left Tallahassee as the program's all-time leader in passing yards, completions and touchdown passes, numbers that still stand atop the Rattlers' record book. He led FAMU to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles and playoff appearances before a six-year NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs.

Gray's path back to Tallahassee ran through the coaching ranks. He spent time on FAMU's own staff from 2011 to 2014 as offensive coordinator, associate head coach and quarterbacks coach, then built a reputation as a rising Division II head coach at Albany State, where he twice finished as conference runner-up before winning the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a 12-2 season.

His first spring on the job culminated in the "Friday Night Strike" Orange and Green Spring Game at Bragg Memorial Stadium, giving Rattler Nation its first extended look at the roster he is building.
