FAMU Sweeps PVAMU and Runs Winning Streak to 6 in a Row

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Florida A&M's offense was relentless from the third inning on. Jackson McKenzie launched a three-run home run to cap a seven-run third, and the Rattlers kept piling on from there — cruising to a 14-4 victory over Prairie View on Saturday at Tankersley Field. FAMU improved to 15-14 on the season, sending 13 hits to all parts of the park in one of its most complete offensive performances of the year.

The third inning was the knockout punch. Alex Monile singled, Ethan Miller singled, and Josue Figueroa drove in the first run with a single to left. A Prairie View error put two more runners on, then Justen Crews singled up the middle for two RBIs to make it 4-1. Jay Campbell singled to right-center and McKenzie followed immediately with a three-run homer to push the lead to 7-1. The Rattlers sent nine batters to the plate and collected seven hits in the frame against starter Kamar Dove, who did not make it out of the third.

FAMU was not done. The Rattlers tacked on a run in the fourth on a Crews fielder's choice RBI, then erupted for three more in the fifth — with Miller collecting an RBI hit by pitch, Figueroa grounding in a run and Caden Kresak singling home another to push it to 11-4. A three-run sixth put the game fully out of reach, capped by a Figueroa sacrifice fly that made it 14-4.

McKenzie finished 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Figueroa matched him with three RBIs of his own, going 2-for-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. Crews also drove in three from the five-hole, reaching base on a hit and two fielder's choice scenarios while crossing the plate twice. Campbell went 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.

Jesus Campa picked up the win, working five innings and allowing four runs on five hits. He battled his control at times — walking three and throwing two wild pitches — but the Rattler lead was so large by the time Prairie View threatened that it never mattered. Karson Lindsey and Tanner Walker each threw a clean inning in relief to finish it off.

Prairie View's Ryland Duson gave the Panthers a brief spark, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs — accounting for nearly all of the team's production — but the Panthers committed three errors and could not generate enough offense against FAMU's deep lineup.
