Granger's 8-strikeout outing leads Florida A&M over Villanova 4-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Caleb Granger dominated on Friday, punching out eight Villanova hitters over eight innings of work to help propel the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Wildcats 4-1.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Granger (2-1) went eight innings, giving up one run on eight hits and walking one for Florida A&M (4-9). Cody Williams also made an impact on the mound for the Rattlers, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits.

At the plate, the Rattlers were paced by Matthew Perez, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Justen Crews put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Jackson McKenzie also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Caden Kresak came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M and get them on the board.

The Wildcats failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Florida A&M pushed across a run on Perez's RBI double, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Rattlers.

Florida A&M held Villanova without a run before building their lead to 3-0 the following inning.

The Wildcats gained ground, closing the gap to 3-1 until Florida A&M added some insurance in the fifth. Jay Campbell crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Rattlers, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of Florida A&M. The score remained 4-1 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers held on for the win.
