TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Led by a 73.3 percent shooting performance from three-point distance, the Florida A&M men's basketball team took down the Prairie View A&M Panthers 100-96 at home Monday.
The Rattlers (9-13, 6-5) had seven players score in double figures, led by Jordan Chatman, who had 18 points. Kaleb Washington tacked on 15 points and three steals and Tyler Shirley chipped in as well with 13 points.
Florida A&M shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 20 assists on 35 made field goals. Individually, Jaquan Sanders dished out the most for the Rattlers with seven assists and Shirley also helped out with three assists of his own.
The Florida A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 18 Prairie View A&M turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 25 points on the offensive end of the floor. Micah Octave's four steals led the way individually for the Rattlers.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 33-21 advantage, Florida A&M went on a 9-0 run with 8:05 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Anquan Boldin Jr., to increase its lead to 42-21. The Rattlers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 56-34 advantage. Florida A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 56 points.
Florida A&M started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Octave's three, to grow the lead to 61-34 with 19:29 to go in the contest. The Panthers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 100-96 win. Florida A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 44 points in the lane.
