Florida A&M Pushes Past Alabama State, 76-63

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Micah Octave grabbed 14 rebounds, and the Florida A&M men's basketball team knocked off the Alabama State Hornets 76-63 at home Saturday.

The Rattlers (11-15, 8-7) had four players score in double figures, led by Antonio Baker, who had 19 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Chatman added 14 points off of the bench and Miles Ndalama chipped in as well with 12 points.

Baker pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace the Florida A&M offense which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into nine second chance points.

Florida A&M's defense held Alabama State to only 40 percent shooting from the field. The Hornets did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with seven offensive rebounds and managed seven second chance points while Florida A&M cleared 34 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 32-31 advantage, Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run with 1:05 left in the first half to increase its lead to 38-31. The Rattlers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 40-31 advantage. Florida A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 40 points close to the basket.

Florida A&M kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run to grow the lead to 76-61 with 25 seconds to go in the contest. The Hornets narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still cruised the rest of the way for the 76-63 win. Florida A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 36 points in the lane.
