Five Score in Double Figures as Rattlers Top Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. — Florida A&M delivered a commanding road performance Monday night, powering past Alcorn State 86-78 behind a balanced and relentless offensive attack. 

The Rattlers had five players in double figures, showcasing their depth and efficiency. Jaquan Sanders orchestrated the offense with 17 points and eight assists, controlling the tempo from start to finish. Kaleb Washington added 15 points and six rebounds, while Tyler Shirley contributed 13 points and two steals in a poised two-way effort.  

Jordan Chatman delivered a strong all-around performance with 12 points, knocking down key shots and providing energy on both ends of the floor. Antonio Baker Jr. also made his presence felt, adding 11 points and stepping up with timely buckets that helped Florida A&M maintain its momentum throughout the contest. 

Florida A&M controlled the boards, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds that converted into 20 points. Washington led the charge with three offensive boards, helping the Rattlers consistently extend possessions and wear down the Braves. 

Defensively, the Rattlers made life difficult all night, swatting six shots and contesting nearly every look at the rim. Micah Octave anchored the interior with two blocks as Florida A&M protected the paint and secured the statement road victory. 

How It Happened 

After taking command to lead 22-21, Florida A&M seized control with a 5-0 burst midway through the first half, capped by a deep three from Jordan Chatman to push the lead to 27-21. The Rattlers kept their foot on the gas, extending the margin to double digits and heading into halftime, 39-29. Florida A&M caught fire from beyond the arc, drilling six three-pointers that accounted for 18 of its 39 first-half points and set the tone offensively. 

The Rattlers carried that momentum into the second half, maintaining their edge before exploding on a decisive 13-0 run, punctuated by Tyler Shirley's layup to stretch the lead to 55-32 with 14:51 remaining. Although the Braves made a late push, Florida A&M never gave up control and methodically closed out the 86-78 road victory. The Rattlers' depth proved pivotal down the stretch, with the bench pouring in 14 points in the half to keep the pressure on and secure the win.
