LORMAN, Miss. --The Florida A&M women's basketball team held Alcorn State to just 20 percent from deep in a 4-for-20 shooting performance, but fell 62-50 to the Braves on the road Thursday.
The Rattlers (7-16, 6-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Breazia Robinson, who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cornelia Ellington added 11 points and five assists and Camille Jackson chipped in as well with 10 points and two steals from the bench.
Florida A&M grabbed 40 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to Alcorn State's 39, led by Robinson's 11 boards. The Rattlers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 14 second chance points.
Florida A&M did a great job disrupting Alcorn State shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Robinson's three rejections led the way individually for the Rattlers.
How It Happened
After playing to a 10-10 tie early in the game, Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run with 5:15 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Robinson, to take a 15-10 lead. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-14 advantage.
The Rattlers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 29-26.
Florida A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Rattlers faced a 45-40 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Florida A&M played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 14 points in the paint.
Alcorn State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 56-44 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 56-50 with 1:28 to go in the contest. Alcorn State responded and outscored the Rattlers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 62-50. Florida A&M got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring three fast break points.
