COVINGTON, Ga. -- Florida A&M softball opened Friday with a 14-1 rout of Bowie State before finishing the day with an 8-0 shutout of Coppin State, completing a commanding two-game sweep at Turner Lake Park in Covington.
The Rattlers outscored their two opponents 22-1, collected 27 hits, and showcased balance in every phase: timely hitting, aggressive baserunning and efficient pitching.
Game 1 Recap: Florida A&M 14, Bowie State 1
Florida A&M delivered its most explosive offensive performance of the day in the opener, scoring 14 runs on 15 hits in a five-inning victory over Bowie State.
After building a 3-0 lead in the third inning and extending it to 6-0 in the fourth, the Rattlers broke the game open with an eight-run fifth. The inning featured RBI extra-base hits before
Samantha Smith launched a three-run home run and
Monroe Oglesby followed with a three-run single to cap the surge.
Ciera Maple starred at the top of the order, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, including a double and a triple. Smith finished with three RBIs, Oglesby drove in three, and
Keeleigh Spooner added two RBIs.
Neriah Lee scored three times and stole three bases as Florida A&M's speed repeatedly pressured the defense.
Smith also earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on two hits over four innings.
Sariah Espada handled the fifth inning and struck out two in scoreless relief.
Game 2 Recap: Florida A&M 8, Coppin State 0
Florida A&M carried that momentum into game two and never let up, posting a six-inning shutout of Coppin State.
The Rattlers scored in four different innings and broke the game open with a four-run fourth.
Amari Brown led the offense, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while
Jamison Townsend drove in two. Ciera Maple added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, and
Keeleigh Spooner contributed an RBI as Florida A&M finished with 12 hits.
In the circle,
Zoryana Hughes was dominant, allowing two hits over five scoreless innings while striking out seven and walking one.
Makayla Register closed the final inning to complete the shutout. Florida A&M also applied pressure on the bases, stealing five bags.
