TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M's Shaniyah McCarthy has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week after delivering back-to-back standout performances in the Rattlers' wins over Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.

McCarthy, a 6-foot-2 post presence for Florida A&M, averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds across the two-game stretch while shooting an efficient 52.2% from the field and 86.7% at the free-throw line. She also added 2.0 steals per game, helping power FAMU on both ends of the floor.

Against Prairie View A&M on Feb. 5, McCarthy logged 37:23 and finished with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, adding six rebounds, two assists and a steal. She followed that with an even stronger all-around outing against Texas Southern on Feb. 7, posting 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, eight rebounds and three steals in 33:14.

Over the two contests, McCarthy went 13-for-15 at the free-throw line, consistently converting in key moments and helping Florida A&M maintain control late in both games. She totaled 37 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and just three turnovers in 70:36 of action.

The weekly honor reflects McCarthy's steady production and leadership during a critical point in conference play, as Florida A&M continues to build momentum in the SWAC race.
