TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida A&M women's basketball seniors Tahnyjia Purifoy and Shaniyah McCarthy were named to the Preseason All-SWAC First Team, the conference announced on Monday.

Purifoy, a senior guard, averaged 10.6 points, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game last season. She shot 82.9 percent from the free throw line (126-of-152) and started 25 of the 28 games she played.

She had a season-high 22 points at Mississippi Valley State on Jan. 15, when she made 11 of 12 free throws. She dished out a season-best 10 assists against Alabama A&M in the SWAC Tournament on March 11 and recorded a season-high six steals against Bethune-Cookman on March 5.

McCarthy, a senior guard/forward, led the Rattlers in scoring at 12.6 points per game and added 5.1 rebounds per game. She started 28 of 30 games and shot 37.6 percent from the field and 70.9 percent from the free throw line.

Her season-high 23 points also came at Mississippi Valley State on Jan. 15, when she made 9 of 11 free throws. McCarthy grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds at Mercer on Nov. 25 and scored 22 points against Jackson State on Jan. 22, making 9 of 14 shots from the field. She reached double figures in scoring in 22 of the 30 games.
