DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Florida A&M volleyball (11-9, 6-1 SWAC) brings a five-match winning streak, the SWAC's top blocking team and the league's top serving team to Moore Gymnasium on Friday, when the Rattlers visit Bethune-Cookman (9-8, 5-2 SWAC) at 6 p.m.
The Rattlers have this one circled for good reason. Last week, on Oct. 7, they swept the Wildcats 3-0 in Tallahassee on Block BCU Night, the first win in a perfect three-match home stand that also included a 3-0 sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Oct. 9 and a 3-1 victory over Grambling State on Oct. 11.

Setting the Scene
Florida A&M has won five straight matches, starting with 3-1 road wins at Mississippi Valley State on Oct. 2 and Jackson State on Oct. 4, and now sits at 6-1 in SWAC play. The Rattlers lead the conference in blocks per set (2.19, with 182 total blocks) and service aces per set (1.95, with 162 aces). Their .210 hitting percentage is second in the SWAC, behind only Alabama A&M (.222), and their .196 opponent hitting percentage ranks fourth.
Scouting the Rattlers
LaDonna Trantham leads the SWAC in kills per set (3.39, 261 kills) and points per set (3.94, 303.5 points).
Sydney Whitfield is right behind, third in the league in kills per set (3.18) with 261 kills of her own.
At the net,
Tamia Coleman leads the conference with 1.07 blocks per set (89 total blocks), and
Farah Farooq is third at 1.00 per set while also hitting .366, second best in the SWAC.
Makenzie Taylor runs the offense at 5.60 assists per set, and
Bengisu Kazazlar has served 27 aces.
Scouting the Wildcats
Bethune-Cookman has won two in a row, beating Grambling State 3-1 on Oct. 9 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 on Oct. 11 after its loss to Florida A&M. The Wildcats are led by Alaya Rhodes, who is second in the SWAC with 3.36 kills per set and 3.83 points per set while also averaging 3.17 digs. Bethune-Cookman holds the league's best opponent hitting percentage (.174) and ranks second in the SWAC with 14.85 digs per set. Talibah Hamlett anchors the block with 1.05 per set.
Keys to the Match
The matchup pairs the SWAC's top two attackers in Trantham and Rhodes, and the league's most disruptive serving and blocking team against its stingiest defense. Florida A&M's serve-and-block pressure should test a Bethune-Cookman offense that averages 9.80 assists per set, ninth in the conference. If the Rattlers keep winning at the line and the net, they can send a sixth straight win back to Tallahassee.
