Florida A&M falls to Alcorn State 61-48 after close finish

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --The Florida A&M women's basketball team went into the fourth quarter tied 43-43 with Alcorn State, but could not take control and fell 61-48 to the Braves at home Saturday.

The Rattlers (5-13, 4-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Camille Jackson, who had 14 points. Tahnyjia Purifoy tacked on 14 points and five assists and Breazia Robinson added seven points.

The Florida A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 23 Alcorn State turnovers while committing 19. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Miya Giles-Jones led the way individually for the Rattlers with two steals.

How It Happened

Florida A&M kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 16-12.

Florida A&M then cut the Braves lead to 20-17 before going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Aina Subirats, to take a 23-20 lead. The Braves then came roaring back to take a 29-28 lead heading into halftime.

Alcorn State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 36-32 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Jackson, to grab a 38-36 lead with 5:15 to go in the third. The Braves then rallied to tie it at 43-43 heading into the fourth quarter. Florida A&M knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 15 total points.

Alcorn State broke the tie, taking control in the final quarter winning 61-48. Florida A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its five points in the paint.
