ATLANTA, Ga. — Florida A&M volleyball displayed grit and flashes of dominance Saturday afternoon, taking the opening set before falling 3-1 to Queens (N.C.) inside the GSU Sports Arena.
The Rattlers (1-5) came out firing, hitting .359 in the first set while recording six team blocks to secure a 25-21 win. The balanced effort showcased FAMU's potential as the team continues to grow in nonconference play.
Farah Farooq powered the attack with a season-best performance, tallying 19 kills on an impressive .579 hitting percentage.
LaDonna Trantham added 11 kills and five blocks at the net, giving the Rattlers a strong two-way presence.
On the defensive side, senior libero
Victoria Santana anchored the back row with 21 digs, while setter
Bengisu Kazazlar kept the offense in rhythm with 33 assists. Florida A&M finished the match with 11 team blocks, outpacing Queens' nine
Though Queens rallied to win the next three sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-20), FAMU fought to the final point, using late-set runs to stay within striking distance.
The Rattlers continue their early-season slate on the road before turning their focus to conference play.
