Florida A&M Rattlers rallies to earn 8-7 victory against Texas Southern in 10 innings

HOUSTON, Texas --The Florida A&M Rattlers fought back from tied 7-7 in the eighth inning to win in exciting fashion, rallying to earn an 8-7 victory in the 10th inning over the Texas Southern Tigers Saturday.

Senior Cody Williams (3-2) got the win out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (26-23, 14-12). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Junior Justen Crews drove in two runs for Florida A&M with a single, that scored Broedy Poppell and freshman Jay Campbell.

The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the third inning. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Crews, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Rattlers.

Florida A&M held Texas Southern scoreless before building their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning.

The Tigers then tied the ballgame at four before Florida A&M fought back to retake their advantage in the seventh inning. The three-run frame for the Rattlers was puncuated by a two-run single off the bat of Crews. bringing the score to 7-4 in favor of Florida A&M.

Texas Southern fired back to tie the contest at seven before the Rattlers reclaimed an 8-7 advantage in the tenth inning. Senior Jalen Niles came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M and get them on the board. The score remained 8-7 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers held on for the win.
