Florida A&M falls to Grambling 55-52

TALLAHASSEE, FL --The Florida A&M women's basketball team kept Grambling to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field, but fell 55-52 to the Tigers at home Saturday.

The Rattlers (9-19, 6-11) had two players score in double figures, led by Sydney Hendrix, who had 13 points. Sabou Gueye added 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and five blocks and Cheyenne McEvans added seven points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Gueye pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Florida A&M, grabbing 14 boards and turning them into nine second chance points.

Florida A&M did a great job disrupting Grambling shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Gueye's five rejections led the way individually for the Rattlers.

How It Happened

Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 17-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Rattlers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 32-20 halftime deficit.

Florida A&M started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 46-37 by the end of the third quarter. Florida A&M played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.

Florida A&M came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by McEvans' three, to seize a 48-46 lead with 4:54 to go in the contest. Grambling re-asserted control, outscoring the Rattlers 9-4 the rest of the way to hand Florida A&M the 55-52 loss. Florida A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.
