TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The fight was there, but the Florida A&M men's basketball team (8-12, 5-4 SWAC) was unable to complete its comeback Monday (Feb. 3) in a 67-66 loss to Alabama State. The Rattlers trailed by as many as 18 in the opening half.
The heartbreaker snaps the team's five-game winning streak.
How It Happened
After falling behind 38-23, Florida A&M went on a 12-0 run with 4:12 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Ja'Derryus Eatmon. The make narrowed FAMU's deficit to 38-35 and it entered halftime down by five, 40-35.
Alabama State continued to extend its lead after the break, building a 57-41 advantage, but the Rattlers responded with a dominant 13-0 run that cut their deficit to 57-54 with 8:38 remaining. Sterling Young's clutch 3-pointer brought the home team within one, 63-62, at the 2:28 mark, and with just 15 seconds left, Shaqir O'Neal converted a four-point play, but the Rattlers were unable to complete the comeback.
