TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The Florida A&M Rattlers secured an 85-76 victory over the Alcorn State Braves on Monday night.

The Rattlers (12-12, 9-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Milton Matthews, who had 26 points. Ja'Derryus Eatmon added 16 points and Shaqir O'Neal chipped in as well with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Florida A&M pulled down 29 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Alcorn State's 26, led by O'Neal's 10 boards. The Rattlers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 11 rebounds into 16 second chance points.

How It Happened

Florida A&M started out the scoring by going on a 10-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Matthews, to take an early lead with 16:40 left in the first half. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 42-34 advantage. Florida A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 22 of its 42 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Florida A&M kept widening that lead, expanding it to 76-64 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Jordan Chatman's three, to grow the lead to 81-64 with 2:52 to go in the contest. The Braves narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still cruised the rest of the way for the 85-76 win. Florida A&M shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 43 points.
