TALLAHASSEE, FL --Sydney Hendrix, Cheyenne McEvans and Sabou Gueye combined to score 29 of Florida A&M's 37 total points, but the Rattlers fell to the Jackson State Tigers 40-37 at home Saturday.
Hendrix led the Rattlers (8-16, 5-8) with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Gueye also tacked on seven points and ZiKeyah Carter chipped in as well with three blocks.
Florida A&M grabbed 42 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Jackson State's 33, led by seven boards from Ivet Subirats. The Rattlers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 17 rebounds into nine second chance points.
The Florida A&M defense held Jackson State shooters to only 35.4 percent from the field. The Tigers did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only seven offensive rebounds and scored seven second chance points while Florida A&M pulled down 25 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
Florida A&M started out the scoring by going on a 6-0 run, culminating in a three from Hendrix, to take an early lead with 7:44 left in the first quarter. The Rattlers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 14-6 advantage. Florida A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 14 points.
The Rattlers maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with an 18-15 edge. Florida A&M ran the fast break well, scoring one fast break points.
After intermission, Florida A&M added to its advantage and owned a 32-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Jackson State then erased the Florida A&M lead in the game's final quarter for a 40-37 comeback victory.
