FAMU Defeats UAPB in Key SWAC Contest

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Florida A&M used a big 206-yard output on the ground, including 122 yards from Thad Franklin Jr. and two rushing touchdowns to pick up a 31-28 win against UAPB Saturday afternoon on the road at Simmons Bank Field.

The Rattlers improved to 4-5 on the year and 3-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Lions fell to 3-6 and 2-4.

RJ Johnson III led Florida A&M's passing attack with 235 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.

Franklin paced the Rattlers rushing attack by accumulating 122 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Jamal Hailey also added 76 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 10.9 yards per carry.

Johnson III's most prolific target in the ballgame was Goldie Lawrence, who caught five passes for 95 yards and one score. Kenari Wilcher got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in four balls for 56 yards.

Brian Norris showed out for the Florida A&M defense, totaling seven tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. Antonio Camon added five tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack and Team had in the win.

Florida A&M had a big outing on the ground, racking up 206 rushing yards while averaging 5.4 yards per carry and out-rushing UAPB by 111 yards. Florida A&M converted on 53.8 percent of third-down attempts on the day. The Rattlers also went 3-for-3 on fourth down.

Florida A&M's defense was tough against the run, limiting UAPB to only 95 yards on the ground.

Florida A&M responded to an early 7-0 UAPB advantage with a second quarter field goal to narrow the deficit to 7-3.The Rattlers then took the lead on a 15-yard touchdown reception from to , making the score 10-7.

Florida A&M continued to build its lead, scoring again with 7:46 left in the third quarter to go ahead 17-7.The Rattlers continued to extend their lead after UAPB narrowed the gap to 17-14, scoring again to go up 24-14.

Florida A&M continued to extend its lead after UAPB made it a 24-21 game, scoring again with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter make the score 31-21. Florida A&M didn't score again and UAPB tacked on seven more points to finish off the scoring.
