FAIRFAX, Va. --The Florida A&M women's basketball team got a 24-point performance from the bench, but fell 88-40 to the George Mason Patriots on the road Monday.
Brooklyn Swann led the Rattlers (0-3) with nine points and six rebounds. Cornelia Ellington also added eight points off of the bench and Breazia Robinson chipped in as well with three points.
How It Happened
Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 26-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The Rattlers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 53-25 halftime deficit.
Florida A&M came out of halftime on fire, going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Shaniyah McCarthy, to trim its deficit to 53-30 with 8:10 to go in the third. George Mason countered and stretched its lead to 75-32 heading into the fourth. Florida A&M knocked down one three-pointer in the quarter to score three of its seven total points.
George Mason kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 88-35 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Robinson's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 88-40 with 49 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Florida A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
