Trantham, Sanford Drop Double-Doubles in Tight 3-2 Defeat to Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Ladonna Trantham and Iyonnie Sanford each recorded impressive double-doubles as Florida A&M battled hard in a five-set thriller, ultimately falling 3-2 to Alabama A&M on the road Sunday at Elmore Gymnasium. 

The Rattlers were powered by standout performances from Ladonna Trantham and Iyonnie Sanford, who each notched double-doubles — Trantham with 14 kills and 14 digs, and Sanford with 15 kills and 12 digs. Farah Farooq added a strong offensive spark with 17 kills, while Victoria Santana anchored the defense with 18 digs and five blocks. c 

Game Notes 

  • Ladonna Trantham and Iyonnie Sanford each recorded double-doubles in the loss. 
  • Florida A&M had three players in double figures in kills. 
  • Florida A&M had four players in double figures in digs. 
  • Farah Farooq had a team-high 17 kills for Florida A&M. 
  • Florida A&M got a team-high 18 digs from Victoria Santana. 
  • Florida A&M attackers were helped by a match-high 32 assists from Bengisu Kazazlar. 

How It Happened 

SET 1 | The Rattlers battled through a tightly contested first set, falling 25-22 after several lead changes before Alabama A&M pulled ahead late. 

SET 2 | Florida A&M answered back with a strong 25-23 win in set two, fueled by a .372 attack percentage and 18 kills. The Rattlers seized control late at 21-20 and never looked back. 

SET 3 | Despite a strong .308 attack percentage and 17 kills, Florida A&M narrowly dropped the third set 27-25, falling into a 2-1 deficit. 

SET 4 | Florida A&M bounced back with a dominant 25-21 win in set four, leading from start to finish. The Rattlers tallied 17 kills and four blocks to force a decisive fifth set. 

SET 5 | Florida A&M battled through a hard-fought five-set match, claiming the second and fourth sets before ultimately falling 15-5 in the decisive frame.
