Rattlers drop season-opener to Georgia Southern

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Friday afternoon, the Florida A&M women's tennis team fell to Georgia Southern 6-1 in their home opener at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.

The doubles portion proved challenging for the Rattlers, with all three pairs falling to their Georgia Southern counterparts. The closest doubles contest came at the No. 1 position, where Rakim and Genesis Whitelock put up a solid fight before falling 6-3.

The day's bright spot came from senior Sara Rakim at No. 1 singles, who battled to an impressive three-set victory over Georgia Southern's Evelyn Warkentin (7-6, 7-5, 7-1). Rakim showed tremendous resilience and determination in securing FAMU's lone point of the match.

In other singles action, Genesis Whitelock fought hard at No. 3 singles, pushing Lisen Rinman to three sets before ultimately coming up short 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Reagan Harris also showed promise at No. 4 singles, dropping a close three-set match to Franzi Heinemann. Larissa Silva also lost a close three-set match to Mackenzie Leopold at the No. 5 singles.

The loss drops FAMU to 0-1 on the young season. The Rattlers will look to bounce back in their next match when they travel to Troy on January 28.
