1/28/2025 6:35:00 PM

Box Score TROY, Ala. –– Despite a strong performance from top singles player Sara Rakim, the Florida A&M women's tennis team fell to Troy 6-1 on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy, Alabama. The loss drops the Rattlers to 0-2 on the young season.

Rakim provided the bright spot for FAMU, defeating Troy's Gabrielle Leslie in straight sets (6-2, 7-5) at the No. 1 singles position. Genesis Whitelock showed fight in her No. 2 singles match, pushing Troy's Maria Guirguis to three sets before ultimately falling 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Reagan Harris also managed to claim the first set in her No. 3 singles match but couldn'tmaintain the momentum in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 loss to Veena Nazar.

The Rattlers faced challenges with depth, having to forfeit both the No. 6 singles position and No. 3 doubles slot due to an incomplete lineup. In doubles play, the Rattlers' top pairing of Rakim and Whitelock fell 6-1, while the No. 2 team of Larissa Silva and Susan Salinas also dropped their match by the same score.

The match began with doubles competition, where Troy secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, followed by a forfeit victory at No. 3. In singles, after early losses at positions 5 and 4, the Rattlers briefly showed life with competitive matches at several positions before Troy pulled away for the overall victory.

The Rattlers travel down to Tampa this weekend to play Texas State and South Florida.
