Rattlers look for first SWAC win Saturday night in return to Al Lawson

1/17/2025 3:37:00 PM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– The Florida A&M Rattlers (3-11, 0-3 SWAC) will look to win their first conference game when they host the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (3-13, 0-3 SWAC) on Saturday evening at the Al Lawson Center.

The Rattlers are led by senior guard Sterling Young, who averages 13.1 points per game while shooting 36.1% from three-point range. Fellow guard Milton Matthews has been a consistent second scoring option, contributing 11.3 points per game and showing excellent efficiency from the free throw line at 95.5%.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff enters the contest having dropped their last three games, most recently falling to Prairie View 75-64. The Golden Lions feature a dynamic scorer in Doctor Bradley, who has averaged 25.7 points across three conference games while shooting 61.4% from the field. Christian Moore orchestrates the UAPB offense, leading the conference with 4.8 assists per game.

This game could come down to tempo and ball security. The Rattlers average 14.8 turnovers per game compared to UAPB's 16.0, but the Golden Lions have shown better shooting efficiency, ranking first in the SWAC in field goal percentage (46.6%). Florida A&M will need to protect the ball and capitalize on their home court advantage, where they hold a 3-1 record this season.

Key matchup to watch
FAMU's interior defense vs UAPB's efficient scoring attack. The Rattlers' rim protection, anchored by Ja'Derryus Eatmon and Jamine Charles (combining for 24 blocks this season), will be tested against UAPB's conference-leading field goal percentage.

Game time is 6:00 p.m. Eastern at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee, Florida. Tickets may be purchased at famuathletics.com/tickets.
