GRAMBLING, LA -- The Florida A&M women's basketball team fell to Grambling 78-64 on the road Monday night. The game was a close contest through three quarters, with the Rattlers entering the fourth tied at 57-57 before the Tigers pulled away late.
The Rattlers (4-10, 1-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Sydney Hendrix, who had 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals. D'Mya Griffin added 17 points and two steals and Sabou Gueye chipped in as well with 11 points.
Hendrix pulled down six offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Florida A&M, grabbing 14 boards and turning them into eight second chance points.
The Florida A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 18 Grambling turnovers while committing 15. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Nya Bostic led the way individually for the Rattlers with three steals.
How It Happened
Florida A&M kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 14-10.
Grambling kept adding to that lead, building a 40-28 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run to narrow its deficit to 40-33, a score that would hold until halftime.
Following halftime, Florida A&M kept the Tigers from growing their lead before going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Hendrix, to grab a 49-46 lead with 4:25 to go in the third. The Tigers then rallied to tie it at 57-57 heading into the fourth quarter. Florida A&M played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 24 points in the paint.
Grambling broke the tie, taking control in the final quarter winning 78-64. Florida A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its seven points.
