Rattlers Shift Attention to SWAC Competition

FAMU will take on Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team (8-5) begins its Southwestern Athletic Conference this weekend with road matches at Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State. 
 
Friday, Sept. 27
at Jackson State | 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT

Sunday, Sept. 29
at Mississippi Valley State | 1 p.m. ET  / 12 p.m. CT

Quick Notes
  • Brooke Lynn Watts has recorded double-digit kills in all but one match this season, including a season-high 18 versus Incarnate Word
  • Watts currently leads the team with three double-doubles, while Jada Rhodes and Alexandra Koleva each manage two
  • Gokhan Yilmaz is seven away from achieving his 100th victory as the head coach at FAMU
  • Koleva needs just 17 assists to amass 500 in her two-year career with the Rattlers 
The Last Outing 
FAMU left the Ragin' Cajuns Classic on the highest of notes after posting a straight-set win over Jacksonville State. The Rattlers went 1-2 during the tournament, which also highlighted a 3-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana and a 3-2 setback at Louisiana. 
  • Koleva totaled 52 assists at Louisiana (the most recorded in the SWAC this season); the senior's 30-assist performance versus JSU is the most recorded in a three-set match in the SWAC this season
  • Tinons Galmés recorded 20 assists in the win (the most recorded in a three-set match in the SWAC this season) and added 27 versus Louisiana (tying for third most recorded in the SWAC this season) 
  • Brookelynn Thomas finished with a team-high 42 points
  • Kalia Todd recorded a team-best 16 blocks (14 assisted) 
  • Watts paced the Rattler offense with 37 kills

A Year Ago
  • Florida A&M reached the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match for the third consecutive season but fell short of a three-peat, losing 3-0 to Jackson State.
  • The Rattlers finished the season with an 18-14 overall record and a 12-4 mark in SWAC play. Before facing JSU in the title match, they were riding an eight-match winning streak.
  • Brooke Hudson was honored as the SWAC Libero of the Year and earned First Team All-SWAC honors alongside Brooke Lynn Watts and Camila De La RosaIsis Williams and Iyonnie Sanford were named to the Second Team All-SWAC.
