MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Florida A&M Rattlers held a 5-3 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 6-5 to the Alabama State Hornets Friday.
Senior Grant Harrison (1-2) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (23-24, ) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Florida A&M scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Joseph Pierini's single.
The Hornets failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Ty Jackson, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Rattlers.
Alabama State narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 3-1 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 4-1 in the fifth inning. The Rattlers recorded a run on sophomore Jordan 's two-out solo home run off sophomore Jorhan Laboy.
The Hornets fought back, closing the gap to 4-3 until Florida A&M added some insurance in the sixth. Senior True Fontenot crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Rattlers, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of Florida A&M. The Rattlers were unable to hold the lead, as Alabama State scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 6-5 win.
