TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Freshman Zoryana Hughes was dealing on Friday, throwing a two-hit shutout to lead the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Jackson State Tigers 2-0.
Hughes (10-2) went the distance for Florida A&M (17-16, 13-3), giving up two hits, walking one and striking out five.
In the batter's box, the Rattlers were paced by senior Nyomi Jones, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Junior Samantha Smith put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Junior Kiauna Watson also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. Florida A&M scratched across a run off senior Victoria Salazar when Jones tripled in senior Mia Blasingane.
The Rattlers then tacked on a run in the sixth inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame. That run came across on an RBI single off the bat of Smith.
