Rattlers travel to Daytona Beach to battle the Wildcats for first place

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –– Florida A&M softball hit the road for the second straight week, traveling to Daytona Beach, Florida, to take on in-state rivals Bethune-Cookman with first place in the SWAC East on the line.
 
The Rattlers enter the weekend tied for first place with the Wildcats in the SWAC East with an 8-1 record. Both teams enter the weekend on a winning streak as the Rattlers won their last two games at Jackson State, and the Wildcats won their last three games versus Alabama A&M.
 
The Wildcats and the Rattlers enter the weekend series as the top two hitting teams in SWAC play. The Wildcats are hitting .403 with 104 hits, and the Rattlers are hitting .388 with 94 hits. The Rattlers also enter the weekend with the lowest ERA in the SWAC with a 1.35 while also giving up the least amount of hits (36) and the lowest opponent batting average (.194).
 
Individually, the Rattlers have seen consistent hitting from the group, as they have eight players with at least eight hits in SWAC play. Zoryana Hughes (4-0) and Samantha Smith (4-1) have led the way for the Rattlers on the mound. All three starting pitchers have an ERA under 2.0.
