Rattlers suffer a tough 71-69 loss to Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Florida A&M women's basketball team shot 54.5 percent from three-point range, but fell to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 71-69 on the road Saturday.

The Rattlers (4-15, 3-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Ahriahna Grizzle, who had 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Olivia Delancy added 19 points, three steals and two blocks and Aina Subirats added nine points and two steals.

Led by Grizzle's three offensive rebounds, Florida A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.

Florida A&M's defense held Alabama A&M to only 35.3 percent shooting from the field.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-7, Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run with 4:40 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Ivet Subirats, to take a 14-13 lead. The Rattlers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 17-14 advantage. Florida A&M capitalized on five Alabama A&M turnovers in the period, turning them into six points on the other end of the floor.

The Rattlers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 29-26.

Florida A&M came out of halftime on fire, going on a 9-0 run to grab a 35-29 lead with 6:59 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Rattlers added 11 points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 53-36 edge. Florida A&M took advantage of five Alabama A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.

Alabama A&M then erased the Florida A&M lead in the game's final quarter for a 71-69 comeback victory.
