LORMAN, MS --The Florida A&M men's basketball team got a 21-point performance from the bench, but fell 79-68 to the Alcorn State Braves on the road Monday.
The Rattlers (4-20, 2-11) had four players score in double figures, led by Shannon Grant, who had 15 points and seven rebounds. Keith Lamar added 13 points and Jalen Speer chipped in as well with 12 points and six rebounds.
Led by Grant's three offensive rebounds, Florida A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 18 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 43-28, Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run with 1:20 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Speer, to narrow its deficit to 43-35, a score that would hold until halftime.
Florida A&M narrowed its deficit to 49-45 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Lamar's jumper, to seize a 53-49 lead with 11:19 to go in the contest. Alcorn State re-asserted control, outscoring the Rattlers 30-15 the rest of the way to hand Florida A&M the 79-68 loss. Florida A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 33 points in the lane.
