Rattlers on the road for match ups against Jackson State and Alcorn

Jackson, MS - Florida A&M women's basketball will go on the road for SWAC match ups against Jackson State and Alcorn State. The Rattlers (7-15, 6-5 SWAC) are coming off a historic 71-63 win against Prairie View, as they reached six conference wins in the SWAC for the first time in program history.

Non-conference Recap

The Rattlers have been tested early this Season with a tough non-conference slate. The Rattlers opened up the Season on the road against the University of Tennessee, losing to the Lady Vols 93-64. The Rattlers stayed in Tennessee for their matchup against Middle Tennessee, where they suffered a 93-48 loss. 

The Rattlers returned to the Sunshine State for their matchup against Florida. The Rattlers would fall to the Gators 92-54. The Rattlers picked up their first win of the Season against Jacksonville. 

The Rattlers then traveled to Texas to take on Sam Houston - FAMU fell to the Bearkats 65-62. The Rattlers then wrapped up the road trip at the University of Houston, where they lost to the Courgars 79-59. The Rattlers returned home for a matchup against South Alabama, falling to the Panthers 68-65. The Rattlers then traveled to Michigan, dropping matchups to Detriot Mercy and the University of Michigan. The Rattlers wrapped up the non-conference slate at North Florida, falling to the Ospreys 76-71. 


SWAC Player of the Week

Ahriahna Grizzle earned SWAC Player of the Week for the third week. Grizzle averaged 29 points, 3.5 steals, and three assists in the wins vs. Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. Grizzle has been a force offensively for the Rattlers this season; she is the team's leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points per game. Grizzle also ranks first in the SWAC in total points and points per game. Defensively, Grizzle leads the Rattlers in steals (55), averaging 2.5 per game; she also ranks second in the SWAC that category.

Scouting the Lady Tigers (vs. UAPB) 

Andriana Avent notched 20 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the Jackson State women's basketball team cruised to a 72-56 win over the Golden Lions on the road Monday evening. Ti'lan Boler added 18 points off the bench, and Angel Jackson added five points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Jackson pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Jackson State, grabbing 16 boards and turning them into 13 second-chance points. 

Jackson State forced 16 UAPB turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Monday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Avent's three steals led the way for Jackson State.


Scouting the Lady Braves (vs. MVSU)

The Lady Braves defeated the Delta Devilettes, 70-65, to snap a six-game losing streak. Alcorn broke even in the points from the turnover battle, 12 all. Destiny Brown dominated the paint with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. She also racked up a season and game-high seven blocks and dished out four assists. Nakia Cheatham proved as formidable as Brown, putting up a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 15 boards. Kiarra Henderson exploded with 15 points, while Zy'Nyia White dropped 12.

The Lady Braves were 43.1 percent from the field and 68.6 percent from the free throw line.
