Grizzle's 27 points leads Florida A&M past Prairie View A&M 71-63

TALLAHASSEE, FL --Ahriahna Grizzle knocked down a dagger shot with 33 seconds left in the game to put Florida A&M up 68-60, and the Rattlers earned a 71-63 victory over the Prairie View A&M Panthers at home Monday.

Grizzle led the Rattlers (7-15, 6-5) with 27 points and four steals. Nashani Gilbert added six points, eight rebounds and two steals and Sydney Hendrix chipped in as well with six points and eight rebounds off of the bench.

Jaliya Sharp pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Florida A&M, grabbing 15 boards and turning them into six second chance points.

The Florida A&M defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 28 Prairie View A&M turnovers while committing 21. Those takeaways turned into 31 points on the offensive end of the floor. Grizzle's four steals led the way individually for the Rattlers.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-7, Florida A&M went on a 13-0 run with 2:15 left in the first quarter to take a 20-13 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Florida A&M capitalized on 10 Prairie View A&M turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.

Florida A&M kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 5:33 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Olivia Delancy, to increase its lead to 35-24. The Panthers cut into that lead, but the Rattlers still enjoyed a 39-35 advantage heading into halftime. Florida A&M dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 19 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Florida A&M continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 42-36 before going on an 8-0 run to expand its lead further to 50-36 with 4:06 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Panthers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Rattlers still entered the fourth quarter with a 54-41 edge. Florida A&M took advantage of 11 Prairie View A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of takeaways.

The Rattlers then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Florida A&M took advantage of four Prairie View A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of those takeaways.
