Florida A&M softball's
Nyomi Jones and
Lauryn Peppers earned SWAC weekly honors.
Nyomi Jones won Hitter of the week, and
Lauryn Peppers won Co-Pitcher of the week.
Nyomi Jones had a great opening weekend, recording five hits and batted in two runs against the most challenging opening weekend schedule for a SWAC school that included games against #4 Florida State (twice), Big 12's Texas Tech (twice), and Charlotte (beat FSU on opening day). Jones also drove in the team's first run of the season versus Texas Tech. Jones added a double and had a .375 slugging percentage and a .313 batting average. Jones recorded three hits, one RBI, and one run against Texas Tech while also recording two hits and an RBI versus #4 Florida State.
Lauryn Peppers battled against some of the toughest teams in the country in #4 Florida State and Big 12's Texas Tech (twice) and finished with an opponents batting average of .267. In her second game against Texas Tech, Peppers came in for relief duty and went 2.1 innings, striking out two batters and allowing no hits.
On Thursday, the Rattlers will travel to Troy, Alabama, for the Troy University Tournament this weekend.
