Defensive effort not enough as Florida A&M loses to Prairie View A&M 61-58

TALLAHASSEE, Fla; --The Florida A&M men's basketball team held Prairie View A&M to just 20 percent from beyond the arc in a 3-for-15 shooting performance, but fell 61-58 to the Panthers at home Monday.

The Rattlers (4-18, 2-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Shannon Grant, who had 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Jalen Speer added 13 points and six rebounds and Matthew Webster added eight points and 16 rebounds.

Florida A&M shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 19 assists on 24 made field goals. Individually, K'Jei Parker dished out the most for the Rattlers with eight assists.

Florida A&M did a stellar job disrupting Prairie View A&M shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Grant's two rejections led the way individually for the Rattlers.

How It Happened

After falling behind 17-12, Florida A&M went on an 8-0 run with 10:11 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Grant, to take a 20-17 lead. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 29-27 advantage. Florida A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 29 points close to the basket.

Prairie View A&M proceeded to take a 51-43 lead before Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Parker's three, to shrink the deficit to 51-49 with 4:35 to go in the contest. Prairie View A&M responded and outscored the Rattlers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 61-58. Florida A&M shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 29 points.
