Rattlers wrap up Utah trip with 103-57 loss at BYU

PROVO, Utah –– The Florida A&M Rattlers fell to BYU 103-57 in Provo on Friday night, struggling to contain a hot-shooting Cougars team that shot 54% from the field and 44% from three-point range.

The Rattlers (3-7) found themselves in an early hole, trailing 50-21 at halftime despite a promising start that saw them take a 5-point lead at 7-2 in the opening minutes. However, BYU responded with a decisive 22-0 run that put the game out of reach.

Sterling Young led the Rattlers with 14 points, including going 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Shaqir O'Neal and Jordan Chatman each added 10 points, but the team struggled offensively, shooting just 32.7% from the field and 29.4% from the three-point range.

The Rattlers had difficulty containing BYU's Kanon Catchings, who scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Dallin Hall added 14 points and seven assists for the Cougars.

Despite the loss, the Rattlers showed a fight in the second half, scoring 36 points after the break compared to 21 in the first half.

Florida A&M was outrebounded 45-25 and struggled to generate second-chance opportunities, getting outscored 14-0 in second-chance points. The Cougars also held a significant advantage in points in the paint (36-14) and bench scoring (41-35).

The loss drops Florida A&M to 3-7 on the season as they travel to play Tarleton State on December 29 for their final non-conference game.
