Rattlers in Salt Lake City to take on the Utes

12/17/2024 8:10:00 AM

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah –– The Florida A&M Rattlers (3-5) face one of their toughest test of the season as they travel to Salt Lake City to take on the high-scoring Utah Utes (7-2) on Tuesday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. Eastern.

The Rattlers come into this contest having won two straight home games, including a dominant 130-58 victory over Trinity (FL) in their last outing. However, FAMU has struggled on the road this season, going 0-5 in away games against Power 4 competition.

Utah presents a formidable challenge, averaging 86.3 points per game (16th nationally) while holding opponents to just 64.6 points. The Utes are particularly dangerous from beyond the arc, hitting 11.3 three-pointers per game (7th in NCAA).

The Rattlers will need strong performances from their leading scorers Sterling Young (13.4 ppg) and Milton Matthews (11.6 ppg) to keep pace with Utah's high-powered offense, led by Gabe Madsen who averages 21.0 points per game.FAMU's bench could be a key factor, as they rank 3rd nationally in bench scoring at 40.63 points per game.

Defensively, FAMU will look to disrupt Utah's efficient offense (48% FG) and try to force turnovers. The Rattlers are averaging 6.3 steals per game, with Jocobi Hendricks leading the team with seven steals this season.

This will be the second meeting between these programs. The Rattlers are seeking their first road win of the season and first victory over a Power 4 opponent this season.

Keys for FAMU
- Control the tempo and limit Utah's transition opportunities
- Defend the three-point line against Utah's 38.2% shooting from deep
- Get production from the bench unit
- Protect the basketball against Utah's defense that forces 13.2 turnovers per game
