JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –– The Florida A&M Rattlers head to Jacksonville in search of their first win of the season. The Rattlers are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and reclaim the momentum they showed last year when they defeated the Dolphins in a closely contested 59-54 battle.
The Rattlers will face a high-powered Dolphins team that averages 74.3 points per game while holding opponents to 62.3. Jacksonville thrives on the boards, leading the ASUN Conference in offensive rebounds (16.3) and stifling opponents' three-point shooting. FAMU must avoid fouling, as Jacksonville ranks 11th nationally in free throws made per game (19.3).
The Rattlers have an advantage from beyond the arc, ranking 14th nationally in three-point percentage (43.2%). However, they will face a JU defense holding opponents to just 21% from beyond the arc.
Sydney Hendrix leads the Rattlers' offense at 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, shooting 46.7% from the field.
D'Mya Griffin has been lethal from beyond the arc, hitting 50% of her three-point attempts while averaging 8.0 points.
Cheyenne McEvans adds efficiency and consistency to the offense, averaging 12.0 points and shooting an impressive 58.8% from the field.
The Rattlers will face a tough challenge against Jacksonville University's leading scorers. Edyn Battle, the Dolphins' offensive leader, averages an impressive 20.6 points per game and will be a key focus for FAMU's defense. Alongside her, Makayla Edwards adds versatility as a scorer and rebounder, contributing 13.6 points and shooting 50% from the field while grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game.
To secure their first win of the season, the Rattlers must focus on limiting fouls, defending Jacksonville's star scorer, Edyn Battle, and controlling the boards against ASUN's top rebounding team. Capitalizing on their three-point shooting and maintaining offensive efficiency will be key while avoiding costly turnovers could make the difference in this competitive match up.
The Rattlers will look to get their first win as they travel to Jacksonville. Tip off is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Swisher Gymnasium.
