TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team played inside Al Lawson Center one last time this year, ending its regular season schedule in historic fashion. The 3-0 win over
Mississippi Valley State (25-10, 25-11, 25-10) cemented the program's first unblemished record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) at 16-0, while also completing an undefeated 13-0 home record.
GAME NOTES
- The Rattlers celebrated its 2024 graduating class ahead of today's match: Bryshanna Brown, Autumn Hamilton, London Hatch, Alexandra Koleva, Jada Rhodes, Brookelynn Thomas, Kalia Todd, Brooke Lynn Watts and Isis Williams.
- Rhodes and Williams finished with six kills each; Williams also added six blocks.
- Hatch (14) and Makenzie Taylor (12) posted double-digit assists.
- The Rattlers, currently 24-6, have secured their third 20-win season under head coach Gokhan Yilmaz; the team finished 25-7 in 2021 and 21-13 in 2022.
- This isn't the first time FAMU posted a perfect conference record – the team finished 10-0 in 2012, 2013, and 2016.
- FAMU is one of nine teams in the nation currently unbeaten in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE | The Rattlers kicked off the match with a 6-1 run and cruised. They finished the set with a .579 hitting percentage with 13 kills and four aces.
SET TWO | MVSU recorded the first point of the set but lost its lead on three straight kills – each by a Rattler senior (Rhodes, Williams, and Thomas). The Orange and Green never trailed again.
Tinons Galmés closed the set with a service ace.
SET THREE | The final set captured six early ties, the last at 8-all, and FAMU broke the stalemate with a 5-0 run. They led from there.
NEXT UP
The Rattlers claimed the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SWAC Tournament (Nov. 22-24) and will take on the No. 8 seed Friday at 11 a.m.
